Local Students Advance to Northeast Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 7th<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(March 5, 2015) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Budding future scientists and engineers will gather Saturday, March 7, as competitors in the 60th annual Northeast Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NEIRSEF). From building apps to measuring a variety of objects or emotions, students become experts when they share their research and explain its potential impact at the fair.<\/p>\n

NEIRSEF will be held in the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Walb Union Ballrooms and will host students in grades 4-12 whose projects advanced from 48 schools in an eight-county area: Adams, Allen, Huntington, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley. The students will display their winning projects as they compete for numerous awards, including over $2,500 in cash prizes, sponsored by local businesses and organizations dedicated to science and engineering.<\/p>\n

The projects will be judged from 9 a.m. to noon and the award ceremony will be at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Projects encompassing grades 4-12 will be selected as representatives of the northeast Indiana region to compete at the Hoosier State Science and Engineering Fair (HSEF), Saturday, March 21, in Indianapolis. At the HSEF, senior division participants (grades 9-12) will vie for a spot as part of the Indiana delegation to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Penn. National awards, cash prizes, and scholarships can be earned at all levels of the fair.<\/p>\n

Since 1955, the fair has served as a catalyst for thousands of area youngsters by encouraging and rewarding their creativity and inspiring them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The health of our national and local economies depends on sustained innovation in science and engineering. This requires constant renewal of the supply of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians, which is intimately tied to the education of youth in these fields. NIRSEF is the premier venue to showcase the fruits of that education and to ignite the passion of the next generation of innovators.<\/p>\n
