These grants have been awarded to three organizations that provide essential funding and support services to the local nonprofit sector. They are United Way of Allen County, the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, and Arts United.

“The Foellinger Foundation has a long history of providing grant support to leverage additional funds for United Way, the Community Foundation, and Arts United, “said Bob Taylor, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “This history involves grants to United Way and Arts United for annual campaigns, matches for new donors, and, in some cases, organizational operating support. Foellinger has also provided substantial grants to match the Lilly Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) Initiatives to the Community Foundation.”

The grants and their purposes are:

A $400,000, one-time only grant to United Way of Allen County to help address the organization’s announced multi-year campaign shortfall of $600,000. This shortfall has a direct impact on United Way’s operations and that of its 34 partner agencies, 28 of which are also current Foellinger Foundation grantees.

A second grant to United Way of up to $200,000 to match new individual donors to the United Way Tocqueville Society. Individuals in the Tocqueville Society annually give United Way a gift of $10,000.

A $100,000 one-time only grant to Arts United for its special 60th anniversary $1 million fund drive campaign. This campaign supports more than 70 arts and cultural agencies throughout the region. Arts United has 12 principal partners, 11 of which are also Foellinger Foundation grantees.

A second grant to Arts United of up to $50,000 to match new individual donors to the Arts United Medici Society. Medici Society donors may choose five levels in which in to give annual gifts of $1,000 to $25,000.

A grant to the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne in the amount of $500,000. Grant funds will be directed in the following ways: $225,000 to the Community Foundation’s community grantmaking fund and $225,000 for riverfront development efforts to be matched using funds from the Lilly GIFT Initiative. In addition, $50,000 has been awarded as matching funds for the New Haven Community Foundation.

“These grants together emphasize the Foundation’s commitment to Allen County and the quality of life supported by a vibrant nonprofit sector,” said Cheryl Taylor, the Foundation’s President.

In addition to these grants, the Foellinger Foundation has partnered with the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne to support the strategic planning efforts of United Way of Allen County and with the English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation to support a cultural and strategic assessment of Arts United. Mrs. Taylor said, “The Foundation believes these organizational capacity grants will allow United Way and Arts United to focus on strategies that will enable them to continue providing service to Allen County’s nonprofit sector”.

About the Foellinger Foundation
The Foellinger Foundation, Inc. is a private charitable foundation created in 1958 by Helene R.
