Re:Create – Upcycle Art Event at the Botanical Conservatory<\/strong>
\nSaturday, February 21, 10 am – 3 pm<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(February 17, 2015) – Give unwanted items new life and purpose through “upcycling.” The Botanical Conservatory’s Re:Create event will be fun and informative for ages 8 and older. See examples of fantastic metal scrap sculpture by Mark Phenicie; get ideas for re-using plastic bottles and discarded toys in the garden; learn to crochet “plarn” into rugs and bags; and explore the many possibilities of a simple film canister. University of St. Francis drama professor Aaron Willoughby will invite participants to stretch their creative imagination through hourly improv exercises, while The Dumpster DrummersTM perform 11 am-1 pm to teach adults and youngsters about recycling and environmental conservation, courtesy of City of Fort Wayne Solid Waste Management. City and County Solid Waste staff will present games to challenge your recycling knowledge and answer questions about waste reduction initiatives. You’ll get ideas for home upcycling projects with used furniture and old tires.<\/p>\n

The backdrop for this event is the collaborative “Changing Tides” exhibit featuring the ocean-themed artwork of international artist Sayaka Ganz. Ganz demonstrates how beauty can be fashioned from the leftover and unwanted. We’ve collected plenty of odds and ends so that you can explore your own creativity and make your own upcycle project to take home. Free popcorn and warm drinks will be available. <\/p>\n
