Red Dress dash set to raise awareness for American Heart Month<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(January 29, 2015) – The first annual Red Dress Dash will take place Saturday, February 7 from 1pm to 3pm in downtown Fort Wayne. The event will serve as a local kick off to American Heart Month and is part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. The campaign educates and encourages women to be more heart healthy.<\/p>\n

About one in three women die of heart disease, adding up to about one death every minute. It is the No. 1 killer of women, more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.<\/p>\n

The Red Dress Dash invites ladies and gentlemen from Fort Wayne and the surrounding areas to put on their best red outfit and do a short dash and help bring more attention to heart disease. The half-mile dash will start at Headwaters Park West and end at the Wells Street Bridge. The event is free with a hot chocolate festival immediately following at Fort Wayne Outfitters featuring local musicians and The Golden. Registration starts at 12:30 and the dash begins at 1 pm.<\/p>\n

“Our hope is to create a public display intended to drive home an important point that heart disease is major health concern. Having everyone dressed in red we’ll be able to do just that and have a little fun,” said Tiffany France, Go Red for Women Director.<\/p>\n

Often dismissed as an older man’s disease, cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 women each year. Only one in five American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat.
