Just Bag It: Growing Trend Up 60%<\/strong>
\nLeaf Collection Begins Monday<\/em><\/p>\n

(October 16, 2014) – Neighborhood leaf collection begins Monday and, as the raking process begins, some residents are opting to bag their leaves and set their own schedule.<\/p>\n

The City’s bagged leaf program allows residents to place leaves in biodegradable bags at the curb and call 311 to schedule a pick-up. The bags will be collected within two business days after the call to 311. This option gives residents the flexibility of having leaves collected at their convenience. It’s a growing trend that saw a 60% increase in participation last year.<\/p>\n

“Falling leaves are weather dependent and last year we saw more than 2,200 residents choose to bag their leaves and have them picked up at the curb,” said Bob Kennedy, Director of the Division of Public Works. “It’s a good way to match leaf collection dates up with your individual schedule.”<\/p>\n

Again, bagged leaves must be placed in biodegradable bags and residents must call 311 to schedule a pick-up. Once they’ve called 311, the bags should be placed at the curb.<\/p>\n

Pick-up of loose leaves that have been raked and placed in piles at the curb begins Monday in northern neighborhoods. Residents can visit our website at cityoffortwayne.org\/leaves<\/a>
\nor call 427-2603 to get specific information about which neighborhoods crews will visit each day.<\/p>\n

Crews from the Street Department will visit each of the more than 400 City neighborhoods twice between Monday and December 5.<\/p>\n
