Traveling Exhibit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>(October 7, 2014) &#8211; The History Center is hosting Who Is a Hoosier?, one of the Indiana Historical Society&#8217;s (IHS&#8217;s) newest traveling exhibitions, beginning Wednesday, October 8. The exhibition will be on display at The History Center, located at 302 East Berry Street, Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n<p>The makeup of Indiana&#8217;s communities has changed over time, molded by the contributions of a wide range of ethnic groups. Many people ask &#8220;What is a Hoosier?&#8221;\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand Indiana natives take pride in their nickname. Today people with many different backgrounds now identify themselves as Hoosiers.<\/p>\n<p>The comings and goings of newcomers to this state, through immigration or migration, have created the Indiana we know today\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand will continue to shape its future. Pioneer settlers, 19th-century immigrants, and modern arrivals alike experienced the universal struggle to build a life in a new place while balancing traditional values with loyalty to a new country.<\/p>\n<p>In this traveling exhibit, maps and informational graphics highlight the statistical impact of changing ethnic groups, while photographs from various IHS collections and institutions all over the state bring to life the personal stories of immigration.<\/p>\n<p>The History Center will supplement the exhibit with a temporary display of items from the museum&#8217;s archives.<\/p>\n<p>Who Is a Hoosier? is made possible by Kroger. A private, nonprofit membership organization, IHS maintains the nation&#8217;s premier research library and archives on the history of Indiana and the Old Northwest and presents a unique set of visitor exhibitions called the Indiana Experience. IHS also provides support and assistance to local museums and historical groups, publishes books and periodicals; sponsors teacher workshops; produces and hosts art exhibitions, museum theater and outside performance groups; and provides youth, adult and family programming. Normal operating hours for the History Center and the Indiana Experience are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the History Center<\/strong><br \/>\nThe History Center is home to the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society and its museum is housed in the Old City Hall at the corner of Berry and Barr in downtown Fort Wayne.
