FWA gains national media attention<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(September 17, 2014) – The New York Times and The Street are taking note of the growth of domestic flights to and from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA), as a result of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s national public relations campaign.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, The New York Times reported the growth at FWA and attributed this to a well-financed partnership with regional economic interests and the high rate of business fliers — 75 percent.<\/p>\n

“The new flights we’ve been able to attract have been the result of strong support from leaders in the region,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. “The airlines are taking note of this and have responded by adding new routes and additional flights from FWA.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, The Street published an article about new daily services from FWA to Charlotte, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and how FWA is one of the lucky airports gaining new services from the American and US Airways merger. Both flights will begin October 2.<\/p>\n

One group that has led support for expanded routes from FWA is the Regional Opportunities Council (ROC). The ROC, which is comprised of over 100 regional leaders, oversees the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s Vision 2020 initiative. Air service is one of seven Vision 2020 priorities identified by the ROC.<\/p>\n

Funds approved by the ROC were the first private investments made to a support a revenue guarantee program that helped attract the new flights from FWA.<\/p>\n

“The new routes at Fort Wayne International Airport have been years in the making. They are proof of the incredible results that take place when we work together as a region,” said John Sampson, president and CEO of the Regional Partnership. “While we celebrate these accomplishes within the region, it’s also important that we market Northeast Indiana’s successes to the world.”<\/p>\n

The New Times is read by 18.3 million people in print and online. The Street has more than 5.3 million unique monthly visitors.<\/p>\n
