Did you know the Lincoln Tower<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

construction began just over 85 years ago with a ground breaking held October August 16, 1929? Later that year, the great Wall Street Crash of 1929 occurred. But construction pushed onward through the Black Thursday (October 24, 1929) and Black Tuesday (October 29, 1929). <\/p>\n

The bank constructing the tower was then known as the Lincoln National Bank and Trust which had started out as the German American National Bank in 1905. Anti-German sentiment during World War I caused the bank to be renamed. The Lincoln National Bank and Trust was bought by Norwest Bank which was then later acquired by Wells Fargo.<\/p>\n

Alvin M. Strauss of Fort Wayne was architect, while Buesching and Hagerman were contractors for the building. The building was the tallest in the state of Indiana until 1962. It was also the tallest in Fort Wayne until the Fort Wayne National Bank Building (known as National City Center from 1999-2009 and as PNC Center since 2009) was built in 1970.<\/p>\n

Construction on the Lincoln Tower was completed the year following it’s start, in 1930.<\/p>\n

The Observation deck at the Lincoln Tower will be open during the Be A Tourist In Your Home Town<\/a> event on September 7, 2014.<\/p>\n
