TinCaps fall short at Lansing<\/strong><\/p>\n

LANSING, Mich. (August 13, 2014) – The TinCaps lost on the road to the Lansing Lugnuts, 3-2, Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. The Lugnuts broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning when a run scored with two outs on a wild pitch. <\/p>\n

After taking the opener of the series on Tuesday, 4-2, Fort Wayne (23-28, 53-67) was stymied at the plate Wednesday. The TinCaps had only four hits in the game. One didn’t produce a base runner as Fernando Perez was thrown out attempting to turn a single into a double, and two others didn’t leave the infield. Nevertheless, this game was right there for them.<\/p>\n

Held off the scoreboard for the first six innings, Fort Wayne scored twice in the seventh without the ball leaving the infield. Ronnie Richardson was hit by a pitch and Nick Schulz walked. With two outs, Trea Turner hit a groundball toward Lansing (22-29, 54-66) shortstop Dawel Lugo. Realizing he wouldn’t have a play at first base, Lugo held on to the ball. Meanwhile, Richardson raced to third and never stopped. Lugo had plenty of time to throw Richardson out at the plate but instead fired wildly and the ball went to the backstop. Richardson scored to cut the TinCaps’ deficit in half. Schulz reached third and Turner went to second on the error.<\/p>\n

Dustin Peterson then followed with an infield single that bounced over the mound and was cut off by the second baseman David Harris. That was good enough to score Schulz to tie the game, 2-2.<\/p>\n

The Lugnuts retook the lead in the ensuing half-inning. Lansing catcher Daniel Klein led the inning off against Tyler Wood (0-1) with a line-drive single off the glove of Turner, who elevated high into the air in an effort to make a spectacular catch. Klein was then bunted to second and reached third on a wild pitch. Eric Yardley replaced Wood with two outs to face Mitch Nay. Another wild pitch allowed Klein to score the go-ahead, and what proved to be the winning, run.<\/p>\n

Lansing initially led 2-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth against Fort Wayne starter Jimmi Brasoban. D.J. Davis and David Harris both had RBI singles. In five innings, Brasoban walked four, allowed five hits, and struck out three.<\/p>\n

Scott Silverstein (11-4) picked up his Midwest League-leading 11th win of the season out of the bullpen. Brady Dragmire pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. Lugnuts started Brent Powers walked four in five innings, but gave up only one hit and struck out seven.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps and Lugnuts play the rubber match of their three-game series in Lansing on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Cody Hebner is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne against Brad Allen. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com<\/a>, and the TuneIn Radio app.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
