Growing Minds Educational Services promotes healthy living for area youth with the support from Parkview<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(July 28, 2014) – As part of its Agriculture Program, Growing Minds Educational Services is promoting healthy living and eating as they have broken ground and developed 5 raised garden beds on the campus of Spiece Fieldhouse. With the support, guidance, and help from Parkview, Growing Minds is able to serve the area youth who attend summer programs at the Renaissance YMCA. The Growing Minds Agriculture Program offers a unique opportunity for our youth to learn and explore agriculture and gardening. Youth will participate in developing and operating a community garden.<\/p>\n

The Growing Minds Agricultural Program provides students with opportunities in the field of agriculture. Participants will gain an appreciation for agricultural sciences and technology, while also increasing their understanding of the diversity of agriculture; they will leave the program with an awareness that agriculture encompasses more than the task of farming. Students participate in hands-on, interactive scientific experiences in the food and nutritional sciences; entomology; bio-systems and agricultural engineering; and plant pathology career fields. Participants also participate in oral presentations to gain public speaking experience, while highlighting the research they learned about the program.<\/p>\n

As a kick-off, students participating in the Growing Minds Educational and Agriculture Program will take a field trip to the Joseph Decquis Farm to learn about nutrition, gardening, and farming. The event will be followed by a meal prepared by the Joseph Decquis chef.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited about this opportunity for our area youth. Students will be able to “play in the dirt” while learning very important life skills, “said Beth Hodges, co-owner, Growing Minds Educational services. “Throughout the summer, students will learn how to plant, grow, harvest, and even cook!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
