TinCaps offense spews 13 runs in win<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(May 1, 2014) – A day after the TinCaps went viral, there were no geysers at Parkview Field on Thursday night. Instead, the only thing flowing was Fort Wayne runs, as the TinCaps beat the Great Lakes Loons, 13-4. Fort Wayne matched a season-high for hits in a game with 18.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps’ offense set the tone early with at least one run in each of the first five frames. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, Fort Wayne left fielder Henry Charles drove in two runs with a double off Great Lakes (3-3) starter Jonathan Martinez that gave the home side a 3-1 lead. The TinCaps’ tacked on another run in the third to make it 4-1 and created more separation with a three-run fourth. <\/p>\n

Second baseman Fernando Perez — jokingly named one of the “World’s Worst” people by ESPN’s Keith Olbermann for his part in inadvertently kicking open a water valve Wednesday — helped lead the way with three hits and three runs batted in. The infielder’s night at the plate raised his season batting average to .340. <\/p>\n

Catcher Ryan Miller and first baseman Jake Bauers also turned in three-hit performances for the TinCaps. Eight batters had at least one hit, while seven collected multiple hits. Fort Wayne (11-15) turned it into a laugher with a four-run bottom of the eighth. <\/p>\n

On the mound, Coby Cowgill (2-0) picked up his second win of the week. The right-hander held Great Lakes (15-12) to five hits and three runs in five innings. Tony Rizzotti struck out five in his two innings of relief before Wilson Santos finished the game with two hit-less innings. <\/p>\n

The TinCaps continue their homestand at Parkview Field on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the South Bend Silver Hawks. Walker Weickel will start for Fort Wayne against South Bend’s Jose Martinez in a matchup of righties. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and seen on XFINITY Channel 81. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
