Despite errors & extras, TinCaps win, 7-6<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 29, 2014) – Despite five errors, including one that sent the game to extra innings, the TinCaps overcame their missteps Tuesday night to snap a three-game losing streak in a 7-6, 10-inning win over the Great Lakes Loons at Parkview Field. Jose Carlos Urena delivered the game-winning swing of the bat, scoring Franmil Reyes from third for the walk-off win.<\/p>\n

Reyes, who came within a double of the cycle in his 4-for-5 night, led off the bottom of the 10th with a triple against Jacob Rhame (2-1). Great Lakes (14-11) elected to intentionally walk the next two batters, loading the bases for Urena, who followed strikeout victim Jake Bauers. With two strikes, Urena swung and hit a ground ball to shortstop Dillon Moyer. Moyer’s throw home pulled catcher Kyle Farmer’s foot off of home plate, rendering Reyes safe and ending the game.<\/p>\n

The Loons knocked in two second-inning runs against Fort Wayne (10-14) starter Payton Baskette, who took the hill as a starter for the first time in 13 days. Reyes provided an immediate answer with his fourth homer of the year, a bottom-of-the-second shot that one-hopped The Harrison over the wall in left field.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps scored four more times in the fourth inning, each run scoring with two outs, as Dane Phillips, Bauers, and Franchy Cordero each plated their teammates to give Fort Wayne a 5-2 lead. Loons hitters responded in the fifth, also getting some help from the TinCaps defense, to score three runs and tie the game. Both centerfielder Mallex Smith and Cordero committed errors in that inning. The five errors charged to Fort Wayne increased their Minor League Baseball-leading total to 49 in 24 games.<\/p>\n

Dustin Peterson, who went 2-for-5, drove home Ronnie Richardson with a fifth-inning single, to give the TinCaps the lead, 6-5, which held until the ninth. Closer Nick Mutz, looking for his third save, saw the leadoff man, Moyer, reach base in the ninth because of a throwing error by Cordero, his 15th error of the season. Moyer ended up at second on the play, and scored on a two-out stroke by Paul Hoenecke. TinCaps reliever Kyle Lloyd (1-1) notched the win as the fourth man out of the home bullpen.<\/p>\n

The two teams duel again Wednesday morning at 11:05 at Parkview Field, with Pete Kelich scheduled to start for the TinCaps and Greg Harris set to hurl for the Loons. The game can be seen on XFINITY 81 and heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
