{"id":4042,"date":"2009-04-19T13:25:06","date_gmt":"2009-04-19T17:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=4042"},"modified":"2020-12-24T14:11:15","modified_gmt":"2020-12-24T19:11:15","slug":"parkview-field-opening-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2009\/04\/19\/parkview-field-opening-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Parkview Field Opening Day"},"content":{"rendered":"ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<p>The above image, from Thursday&#8217;s Opening Day Parkview Field ceremonies, reminded me of another symbolic image from the <a href=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2007\/11\/30\/harrison-square-groundbreaking-ceremony\/\">Harrison Square Groundbreaking held November 29, 2007<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0In the above, dignitaries are gathered to throw out the first ceremonial pitch. \u00c2\u00a0But for some reason, former Mayor Graham Richard was detached from what was happening behind him. \u00c2\u00a0At one point, he walked off the field to greet someone in the dugout area. \u00c2\u00a0For me, this was another visual reminder of Richard&#8217;s insistence and support of this project, even without the backing of a community majority.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\nngg_shortcode_1_placeholder\n<p>On that day, the crowd had poured out from the Grand Wayne Center and crossed Jefferson Boulevard into the project area, halting traffic. \u00c2\u00a0On the way back, Mayor Graham Richard took the lead back to the Grand Wayne Center, by shouting over his shoulder for everyone to follow him. \u00c2\u00a0He added, &#8220;\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and this time let&#8217;s take the crosswalk!&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0At the sidewalk, the Mayor turned right to head towards the cross walk, while the vast majority went straight across Jefferson Boulevard. \u00c2\u00a0For me, this became a symbolic image for the Harrison Square project. \u00c2\u00a0Mayor Graham Richard leading one way, while the majority of the community hesitated or went the other way.<\/p>\n<h3>Related Images:<\/h3><div class=\"ngg-related-gallery\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/gallery\/wells\/81643.jpg\"\n\t\t\ttitle=\"Judi Wire, WCBA President, displays one of the &quot;Tin Caps&quot;.
