Community Leaders Learn that Seeing is Believing<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 15, 2014) – Local business and community leaders will have an opportunity to learn more about the cutting edge educational programs offered at Fort Wayne Community Schools during the Seeing is Believing Tour Thursday, April 17.<\/p>\n

Greater Fort Wayne Inc. and the Fort Wayne Area PTA Council partnered with FWCS to provide a bus tour of the district with stops at three schools – Towles Intermediate School, Harrison Hill Elementary School and South Side High School. The leaders will board an Excursions Trailways bus at Anthis Career Center at 7:15 a.m. and head to Towles where they will hear from Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson and enjoy a light breakfast provided by the PTA. The guests will learn more about the Montessori program in grades 1-6 and the New Tech program in seventh and eighth grades. Guests will observe students in their classrooms and learn how the hands-on Montessori program blends with the project-based learning at New Tech.<\/p>\n

The tour’s second stop will be Harrison Hill Elementary, which is receiving a considerable amount of renovations as part of the facilities project approved by voters in 2012. Students will lead tours of the school and explain how they use project-based learning in their classes. Guests will also see how technology is used to enhance instruction and help students develop 21st century skills.<\/p>\n

The last stop of the bus tour will be South Side High School, where guests will enjoy a performance by South Side’s Show Choir and students will engage in a panel discussion. South Side is home to the International Baccalaureate program, a rigorous pre-university program that seeks to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring students. South Side also offers many dual credit and Advanced Placement classes and a wide range of fine and performing arts programs.<\/p>\n

While at South Side, guests will hear from Mark Becker, CEO of Greater Fort Wayne Inc., and enjoy lunch provided by the PTA.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to offer this new opportunity to community leaders,” Dr. Robinson said. “We know that the best way to explain the dynamic learning that is happening in our classrooms each day is to allow people to see it first-hand. We hope this is just the start of the conversation on the strength of the schools in our community and how we can continue to work together to make them even stronger.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
