IPFW Professor to Lecture on Holocaust Remembrance in Belorussia<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(December 3, 2013) – Ann Livschiz, associate professor of history at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), will speak Tuesday, December 17, at 7 p.m. at the Congregation Achduth Vesholom about her research on the way the Holocaust was remembered and commemorated in the territory of Belorussia.<\/p>\n

The destruction of Soviet Jewry did not make it into the official Soviet master narrative of the the Great Patriotic War, and therefore did not fit the official Soviet commemoration plans. But underneath the seemingly monolithic Soviet master narrative, Livschiz has found interesting literary and cultural commemorative patterns unique to Belorussia. She will discuss these practices and why they seemed to be only present in the Belorussian republic.<\/p>\n

Livschiz specializes in Russian and Soviet history and conducted her research with a grant from Indiana University New Frontiers in the Arts and Humanities.<\/p>\n

The program is sponsored by the IPFW Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The media are invited to attend and cover this event.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
