Native Tongue Lecture Features Talk on the Death of a King<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(November 19, 2013) – John Aden, graduate of Paul Harding High School and executive director of the African\/African American Historical Society and Museum of Fort Wayne, is coming to Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) to present the lecture, “Anvils of Blood, Oaths of Iron: Power, Secrecy, and Assassination in Western Sudan,” as a part of the Native Tongue Lecture Series.<\/p>\n

This lecture will take place Thursday, November 21, at 6 p.m. in Neff Hall, Room 101. This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Aden’s lecture wil focus on the trial and assassination of the king of Segu (present day Mali) in 1856. Attendees will learn the role that iron worker communities played in the death of the king. Aden also touches on how the historical community resisted Muslim jihad and French colonial expansion in the mid- 19th century.<\/p>\n

Native Tongue Lecture Series showcases some of the intellectual talent Fort Wayne has produced through biannual presentations about race and race relations. The series is designed to engage the IPFW community around matters of race, while showing students another pathway to professional success.<\/p>\n

This series is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) and the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (ODMA).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
