Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Illinois and far western Indiana late this morning and race northeast. These storms will quickly evolve into low topped supercells with an enhanced risk for tornadoes, some of which could be strong and long tracked. Two potential scenarios exist into this afternoon into early evening. The initial storms may merge into a line of severe storms and continue eastward, or another line of severe storms will rapidly develop along the cold front and race into the area. Regardless, the main threat from mid afternoon on will transition to mainly damaging winds, possibly in excess of 70 mph. However, an increased risk for tornadoes will exist where breaks in the line occur or on the northern portions of bowing segments. This forecast will be updated later this morning as the event begins to unfold. Families and businesses should make sure preparations are made to protect yourself and those around you.
