{"id":37915,"date":"2013-07-29T17:30:20","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T21:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=37915"},"modified":"2020-12-21T11:33:06","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T16:33:06","slug":"future-3-million-annually-for-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2013\/07\/29\/future-3-million-annually-for-parks\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial plan for future leads to $3 million annually for Parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35197\" alt=\"Fort Wayne Parks &amp; Recreation logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2013\/02\/FWParks_logo.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>News release from Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Mayor applauds planned improvements to Parks<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Financial plan for future leads to $3 million annually for Parks<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>(July 29, 2013) &#8211; Mayor Tom Henry today was joined by members of the Parks &amp; Recreation Department, elected officials, and community and neighborhood leaders to applaud the planned improvements the public will see in the City&#8217;s Parks system.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s announcement was made possible by the leadership of Mayor Henry&#8217;s Administration, the Fiscal Policy Group, neighborhood and business leaders, and the members of City Council who supported and passed a financial plan for the future that provides $3 million in annual funding to assist with maintenance and improvement projects at Parks facilities without having to borrow money.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of planned improvements in 2014:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hamilton Park Splash Pad<\/li>\n<li>Additional restroom in Shoaff Park<\/li>\n<li>Resurface\/repair projects &#8211; first year of ten year plan to resurface and\/or repair roadways, parking lots, tennis courts and basketball courts in the Parks system<\/li>\n<li>Annual tree replacement\/treatment program<\/li>\n<li>Phase One &#8211; Diehm Museum Pavilion renovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;By investing in our future, we&#8217;re demonstrating a commitment to a great quality of life that&#8217;s sustainable and positions us for success,&#8221; said Mayor Henry. &#8220;Children, families, and neighborhoods benefit by having a Parks system that provides tremendous recreational, educational, and social opportunities for growth and development. I continue to be encouraged by the positive momentum in the City of Fort Wayne.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This dedicated annual funding will enable us to continue our stewardship of the community&#8217;s parklands, facilities and public trees entrusted to our care,&#8221; said Parks &amp; Recreation Director Al Moll. &#8220;And as part of our operating model, we solicit some level of private matching funds for projects.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s announcement continues a series of success stories resulting from the City&#8217;s proactive approach to meeting the needs of citizens.
