Overnight Lane Restrictions on I-69 Wednesday and Thursday Nights, May 1 and 2<\/strong>
\nRestrictions to take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Friday morning, May 3<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(May 1, 2013) – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces intermittent overnight lane restrictions on I-69 at the Covington Road Bridge (approximately mile 304), between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., tonight and tomorrow night, May 1 and 2. <\/p>\n

The contractor will be removing concrete on the Covington Road bridge deck over I-69. As work takes place over specific northbound and southbound lanes, it will require restriction of that lane. The interstate will not be fully closed at any time; there will be at least two lanes of traffic open in either direction at all times. Arrowboards and barrels on I-69 will direct traffic in each direction to prepare for lane restrictions. The restrictions are expected to lift by 5 a.m. on Friday morning, May 3.<\/p>\n

Later this spring\/summer, I-69 will have similar restrictions for placement of bridge beams, concrete pours and painting on the bridge. All lane restrictions are currently expected to take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All work is weather permitting. <\/p>\n

Additionally, Covington Road is currently closed to all traffic at the bridge over I-69. The detour, established by the City of Fort Wayne, follows Hadley Road to SR 14\/Illinois Road to Scott Road. The closure is expected to be in effect until this fall.<\/p>\n

The Covington Road bridge work will include bridge deck replacement and widening. The work will entail removing the existing deck and railing down to the bridge beams; constructing wider bridge piers in the median of I-69 and along the outside shoulders of northbound and southbound I-69; and installing additional new bridge beams for a wider deck. The wider deck will allow for wider shoulders and additional width to accommodate the proposed Covington Road Trail, crossing over I-69.<\/p>\n

The adjacent portion of Covington Road work is part of the bridge contract. It will involve improvements at the Covington Road \/ Dicke Road intersection, including the installation of a new traffic signal. <\/p>\n

The project was awarded to Primco based on the low bid of $2.4 million. The entire project is scheduled to be complete in the late fall of 2013.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
