City Utilities Celebrates Earth Day at Camp Scott Wetlands<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 25, 2013) – Although Earth Day is officially observed on April 22, Fort Wayne City Utilities invites visitors to continue the celebration at the Camp Scott Wetlands on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. A variety of activities are planned and the event will be a great opportunity for visitors to take some early spring photos. The wetlands site is located at 3615 Oxford Street.<\/p>\n

The Camp Scott wetlands was built by City Utilities to store and treat stormwater runoff from several neighborhoods around McMillen Park. Water is collected from the neighborhoods in storm sewers and is then pumped to the wetlands from a large holding tank under the park. Rainwater enters the wetlands through a constructed waterfall. It passes through a wetland area them flows into a large pond at the back of the 29-acre site.<\/p>\n

The site is home to wildlife including frogs and turtles, ducks, geese, native songbirds and migrating waterfowl such as green herons and egrets.<\/p>\n
