IPFW History Department Hosts Undergraduate Conference<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 8, 2013) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) history majors will present their research projects at the Fifth Annual History Department Undergraduate Conference, Saturday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. The conference will take place in the Learning Commons on the second floor of Helmke Library. It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

The conference will feature panels on four topics: The American Presidency, Medieval Europe, the Cold War, and War and Memory. Eleven undergraduate students will present papers based on the research they conducted in their upper-level history courses. IPFW history department faculty members will serve as moderators.<\/p>\n

“The conference provides an opportunity for our best students to share their research with an audience of their classmates, faculty from the history and other departments, their parents, and interested members of the Fort Wayne community,” said Ann Livschiz, associate professor of history. “It’s an opportunity for students, some of whom are
\nplanning to go to graduate school, to get experience with conference dynamics. And for all students, it is an important opportunity to develop public speaking and oral communication skills and the confidence that comes with these skills.”<\/p>\n

The history department plans to continue to grow the annual event into an academically rigorous conference that will eventually be able to accommodate student presenters from other universities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
