Economic development to be highlighted in Mather Lectures<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(March 28, 2013) – The final two lectures of the George R. Mather Lecture Series at the History Center will highlight the history of economic development in Allen County.<\/p>\n

All lectures take place at the museum, 302 East Berry, Fort Wayne, at 2 p.m. and are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Local attorney and Coliseum board member Mac Parker will speak about the history and future of the Memorial Coliseum on May 5. His topic is “You’ll Never Believe What Happened at the Coliseum”. Parker will look at the famous people and events in the Coliseum’s 60 year history and give us a glimpse of what is to come in the future.<\/p>\n

Parker is president of the Olive B. Cole Foundation and serves on the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance, the Northeast Regional Partnership, the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center and the Fort Wayne Convention and Visitors Bureau.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

History Center Executive Director Todd Maxwell Pelfrey completes the lecture season on June 2 with a look at the “visionary landscape wizard” George Kessler, whose parks and boulevard plan have defined the look of our city. Pelfrey’s talk is entitled “Fort Wayne’s Park and Boulevard System: A Centennial Perspective”.<\/p>\n

Beginning in March, the History Center’s blog, “History Center Notes and Queries”, has been featuring the work of local writer Mark Meyer and Allen County Historian Tom Castaldi. The blog has enjoyed over 41,000 page views since its inception.<\/p>\n

The blog supplements the Mather Lectures and the History Center’s publications such as the “Old Fort News” and provides information for those wishing to know more about our community as they explore the museum and other historical sites in the city and county. New posts to the blog can also be found via the History Center’s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
