Metro hosts 4 free housing workshops in April<\/strong>
\nTwo-hour sessions to be held every Thursday, 10 a.m. to Noon<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
(April 1, 2013) – The City of Fort Wayne’s Metro Human Relations Commission is hosting a series of free educational workshops in April in honor of Fair Housing Month.<\/p>\n
The series — called “The 4 D’s of Fair Housing” – will include weekly workshops held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays at the Public Safety Academy – Ivy Tech State College, 7602 Patriot Crossing. Ivy Tech is co-hosting the event.<\/p>\n
\n
- On April 4, the series topic will be Diversity and Bias in Renting,<\/li>\n
- On April 11, the discussion topic will be Domestic Violence and Discrimination based on gender,<\/li>\n
- On April 18, the discussion will focus on Disabilities and discrimination in housing, and,<\/li>\n
- On April 25, the series topic will be Due Diligence: Landlord Responsibilities and Retaliation and Tenant Duties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A certificate of completion will be given to those who complete all four sessions. Pre-registration is not required.<\/p>\n

About the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission<\/strong>
\nThe Human Relations Commission was established in 1952 as a mayoral commission to study and address discrimination issues within the city. Over the years the City’s local ordinance expanded the Commission’s role to include enforcement of anti-discrimination laws, as well as to educate and empower the citizens of Fort Wayne.<\/p>\nFort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission, the local civil rights law enforcement agency, is empowered to investigate and enforce allegations of discrimination in employment, housing practices, public accommodation and education in the Fort Wayne Metropolitan area, in partnership with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Department of Justice (DOJ).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
