Holland Elementary School receives healthy school honor<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(February 19, 2013) – Holland Elementary School has earned the Gold Award of Distinction in the HealthierUS School Challenge for establishing a healthier school environment through the promotion of nutrition and physical education.<\/p>\n

Holland has participated in a variety of activities and healthy living initiatives in the last year, including a Dairy Carnival held last spring. With the help of Fort Wayne Community Schools’ Nutrition Services Department, students participated in a variety of educational games related to health and nutrition, including Calcium Twister, Got Milk? Mustaches, Dairy Putt-Putt and Milk on the Moove.<\/p>\n

Holland was one of two schools in Indiana this year to receive the Gold Award of Distinction, the highest designation in the program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

Of the 246 schools that took the challenge in 2011-12 only 18 received Gold of Distinction.<\/p>\n

For its efforts, Holland receives $2,000 to spend as the school chooses and will use it to purchase equipment to use on the playground or during P.E.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
