It&#8217;s time for the Senate to take up these measures and the President to sign them into law. The quickest way to stop the largest tax hike in American history is for President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass our legislation that would prevent it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Instead of allowing massive tax hikes on families and small businesses, we need to provide certainty by extending the current tax rates for all Americans and the House has done just that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 On August 1, 2012, Congressman Stutzman acted to prevent scheduled tax increases by voting for H.R. 8, the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act, which extended current tax rates for one year. The legislation passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 256-171, with 19 Democrats joining the majority.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 On December 20, 2012, the House passed H.R. 6684, the Spending Reduction Act of 2012, which replaces the defense sequester with strategic, common-sense spending cuts and reduces the national deficit by nearly $200 billion more than the original sequester.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 On December 16, 2010, Congressman Stutzman voted to extend tax rates for all Americans when H.R. 4853, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, passed the House by a vote of 277-148.
