News release from the City of Fort Wayne:<\/p>\n

City Crews to Plow All Night<\/strong>
\nAs Roads Improve Motorists Should Still Use Caution<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne Street Department Crews will plow around the clock to keep City streets clean and safe. <\/p>\n

At this hour, 40 plow trucks are working to remove snow from the City’s 1200 miles of road. Crews will work through the night to clear streets and salt intersections. <\/p>\n

As leaf pick-up neared completion, earlier this month, the Street Department workers began converting the fleet to tackle winter weather. Preparation involves making s sure plows and salt spreaders are functioning and that there is an adequate supply of snow fighting materials. The City has 4000 tons of salt on hand to mix with calcium chloride if needed for deicing. This morning trucks were ready to go before the snow began falling. <\/p>\n

The City’s snow plan targets primary streets first. These are the main arteries such as, Anthony, State, Paulding, Aboite Center, Washington Center, and Jefferson. <\/p>\n

Secondary streets are plowed second. These streets are commonly referred to as collectors and include streets such as Hazelett, Reckeweg, Barr, Dickie and Raymond. <\/p>\n

Residential streets are plowed after the primary and secondary streets.<\/p>\n

If snow continues to fall the primary streets may have to be cleared a second or third time before crews can move on to secondary and residential streets. That was the case today as snow continued to fall keeping streets covered throughout the day. <\/p>\n
