{"id":34433,"date":"2012-10-16T10:11:37","date_gmt":"2012-10-16T14:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=34433"},"modified":"2020-12-06T10:39:24","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T15:39:24","slug":"mayor-provides-update-on-2013-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2012\/10\/16\/mayor-provides-update-on-2013-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor provides update on 2013 budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/icons\/tFWseal.jpg\" alt=\"City of Fort Wayne Seal\" \/><\/p>\n<p>News release from the City of Fort Wayne:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Mayor provides update on 2013 budget<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Following the release of the proposed 2013 City budget, Mayor Tom Henry and his leadership team have been working diligently to continue to meet the needs of the community and alleviate concerns addressed by City Council. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor Henry today announced his administration is prepared to offer to City Council a revised proposal for the 2013 budget. <\/p>\n<p>While Mayor Henry continues to advocate the utilization of the State&#8217;s allowable 2.8% tax levy for 2013, he indicated he would not pursue capturing the allowable 2.9% &#8220;banked&#8221; tax levy from last year. Instead, the administration proposes using a one-time distribution of interest from Legacy funds to place in the City&#8217;s cash reserve (savings account). The projected amount would be in the range of $3-$4 million depending on the impact of property tax relief from property tax caps, which will be finalized in early 2013. <\/p>\n<p>The proposal would maintain the City&#8217;s cash reserve and help taxpayers. By keeping the savings account at 10% of the property tax operating budget, the City is in better position to deal with unanticipated emergencies. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor Henry&#8217;s proposal also protects Legacy. By using a one-time distribution of interest from Legacy funds, the City will continue to save resources and invest in projects that will have a long-term, transformational impact on our community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We strongly believe this proposal is the right thing to do to move our City ahead in the most effective way possible,&#8221; said Mayor Henry. &#8220;We look forward to working together with City Council to find solutions that will move our community forward and position us for future success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A final vote on the proposed 2013 budget will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
