Supreme Court Author to Speak at Omnibus Lecture<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) Omnibus Lecture Series presents news analyst and author Jeffrey Toobin, speaking on the topic of “Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court,” and his two latest books on that subject. The lecture is open to the public at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, in the Rhinehart Music Center. Free tickets are required.<\/p>\n
A high-profile senior analyst for CNN and staff writer for The New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin is one of the country’s most esteemed experts on politics, media, and the law. Toobin has provided analysis on some of the most provocative and important events of our time.<\/p>\n
In his previous best-selling book, The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court, Toobin provides a unique look into the inner workings of the Supreme Court and its influence, as well as how upcoming elections will shape the court and, in turn, the nation.<\/p>\n
Toobin’s most recent book, The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court, is a gripping insider’s account of the momentous ideological war between the John Roberts Supreme Court and the Obama administration.<\/p>\n
Toobin’s list of renowned bestsellers includes Opening Arguments, about the Oliver North case; The Run of His Life, about the O.J. Simpson Trial; A Vast Conspiracy, about the impeachment of President Bill Clinton; and Too Close to Call, about the Bush-Gore presidential recount.<\/p>\n
After a six-year tenure at ABC News, where he covered the country’s highest-profile cases and received an Emmy Award in 2000 for his coverage of the Elian Gonzales custody saga, Toobin joined CNN as a legal analyst in 2002 and he now serves as senior analyst for the network. A staff writer for The New Yorker since 1993, he has written articles on such subjects as the Bernie Madoff scandal, the case of Roman Polanski, and profiles of Justices Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer, John Paul Stevens, and Chief Justice John Roberts.<\/p>\n
Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures. Tickets may be obtained IN PERSON at the Larson Box Office in the Gates Athletic Center, 12:30-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; ONLINE at ipfw.edu\/box-office, with a convenience fee of $1; or DAY OF EVENT in the Rhinehart Music Center one hour before the lecture if seats remain. Tickets will be available three weeks prior to each event.<\/p>\n
The Omnibus Lecture Series has been supported by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation since 1995. The 2012-13 season media sponsors are WANE-TV NewsChannel 15 and Northeast Indiana Public Radio.<\/p>\n
Each lecture will be held on the IPFW campus in The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center’s 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall. Doors open one hour before the each lecture. Campus parking is free and convenient. A new 1,000-space parking garage is located in the Fine Arts Plaza to serve Omnibus audiences. Patrons are advised to allow ample time for traffic and parking, as the series and other events on campus may draw large crowds.<\/p>\n
The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center is located on the north end of campus in the arts plaza next to the Ernest E. Williams Theatre and the Visual Arts Building, and behind the Medical Education Center.<\/p>\n
