Improvements include the final phase of perimeter fencing replacement and the installation of runway guard lights at every airfield intersection.<\/p>\n<p>The perimeter fence project replaces the aging fence that currently surrounds the air operations area. Some of the current fencing is nearly 50 years old and no longer complies with updated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. The new 10&#8242; fence will not only comply with those standards, but will further enhance safety and security at the airport.<\/p>\n<p>Runway guard lights (RGL) are alternating flashing lights installed at taxiway-runway intersections. These lights are currently mounted at the airport&#8217;s busier taxiway-runway intersections. The RGL project includes the installation of lights at the 18 remaining intersections, which will significantly increase airfield safety for both commercial and general aviation aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The receipt of these federal grants highlights the Airport Authority&#8217;s dedication to maintaining safety and FAA compliancy at the airport,&#8221; said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. &#8220;It is projects like these that led us to receive the 2011 Airport Safety Award from the FAA, and we will continue to do our best at improving safety for our passengers, business partners, and staff.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Combined, the airfield improvements total more than $2.3-million.
