<\/p>\n

.Temperatures will rise into the middle and upper 90s this afternoon behind a warm front. Heat index values will reach 100 to 105 degrees for several hours.<\/p>\n

A warm front will move across the region this morning and early this afternoon. Skies will be partly cloudy this morning with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Once the warm front passes…it should become mostly sunny with temperatures rising quickly. Relative humidity levels will also remain high due in part to recent rainfall and this will help heat index values reach 100 to 105. The warmest readings will be over Northwest and West Central indiana.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Heat Advisory…which is in effect from noon today to 8 PM EDT this evening.<\/p>\n

Hazardous weather…<\/p>\n

* Afternoon temperatures will reach the middle to upper 90s.<\/p>\n

* Heat index values will range between 100 and 105 degrees for several hours this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Impacts…<\/p>\n

* The elderly…children…people who spend long periods of time outdoors during the day…and those without air conditioning are particularly vulnerable to the effects of heat.<\/p>\n

Precautionary\/preparedness actions…<\/p>\n

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.<\/p>\n

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible…reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.<\/p>\n

To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency…CALL 9 1 1.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
