As 30,000 Fort Wayne area residents remain without power, Mayor Tom Henry continued his commitment to keeping cooling centers open and working to remove trees from streets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While the Fourth of July is a holiday I know there are still many needs in the community. Our staff will be providing emergency support, restoring traffic signals and providing safe places for residents to cool down,&#8221; said Mayor Henry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Three cooling centers will remain open on July 4, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>[list type=&#8221;black&#8221;]<br \/>\n[li]The Community Center, 233 West Main Street, Noon to 6 p.m.[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]Jerry Fox Lifetime Sports Academy at the McMillen Park Golf Clubhouse, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]The Jennings Center at 1330 McCulloch Street, Noon to 6 p.m.[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]The American Red Cross Shelter is continuing to provide shelter for those who are not able to stay in their homes because of storm damage or an extended power outage. Residents can also go to the shelter to take a shower or get a hot meal. The shelter is open 24 hours and is located at the First Assembly of God Church, 1400 West Washington Center Rd., at Lima Road. Residents should enter door number 5.[\/li]<br \/>\n[\/list]<\/p>\n<p>Today City crews continued to remove trees and fix signals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Damage statistics so far<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>[list type=&#8221;black&#8221;]<br \/>\n[li]Main roads and streets are open with 12 smaller, neighborhood streets, still blocked by trees.[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]12 Traffic Signals are still not functioning as of 3pm July 3, 2012.[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]More than 300 street light locations, with 60 individual light poles down.[\/li]<br \/>\n[liMore than 500 trees and thousands of limbs are down.[\/li]<br \/>\n[\/list]<\/p>\n<p><strong>State of Emergency<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, County Commissioners called for a State of Emergency and today, as part of that process, residents are asked to report damage to the State of Indiana&#8217;s Department of Homeland Security at <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/main\/index.php\/weblinksmenu\/68-government\/407-in-homeland-security.html\">www.in.gov\/dhs\/<\/span>. Click on the link &#8220;Report Damage from Severe Weather June 29, 2012&#8221;, in the middle of the page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Debris Clean Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, the City posted a map of the curbside debris pick-up schedule on the front page of its website. The map is shaded, showing residents the status of debris collection in their area. The map is to let residents know when their areas are being picked-up.<\/p>\n<p>The debris should be left at the street curb for collection. Residents should not place the debris in the ally. Branches will not be picked-up with normal garbage collection.<\/p>\n<p>For immediate disposal, residents are encouraged to take debris to one of four drop off sites:<\/p>\n<p>[list type=&#8221;black&#8221;]<br \/>\n[li]Parking Lot at Swinney Park Pool[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]Parking Lot at the Tillman Road entrance of Tillman Park[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]Parking Lot at the Conklin Pavilion at Shoaff Park[\/li]<br \/>\n[li]City Biosolids Facility on Lake Avenue near Maplecrest Road (July 4 8a-6p)[\/li]<br \/>\n[\/list]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burn Ban<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residents are reminded that the countywide burn ban remains in effect.
