June 29 Severe Thunderstorm Update: 11:00 PM, 7\/2\/2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A severe storm system with heavy rain, hail and wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour moved across northern and east central Indiana and southwestern Michigan on June 29. The storm damaged trees and downed power lines as it moved through the area and interrupted electric service for over 118,000 I&M customers in the region. Report problems in your area using our online reporting system.<\/p>\n

As of 11p.m. Monday, I&M restored service to more than 82,000 of the customers that lost service as a result of Friday’s storm with about 37,000 customers currently without electric service across the I&M service area. The majority of those customers (36,000) are located in the greater Fort Wayne area. Friday’s storm caused damage or interrupted service for 138 (95%) of the 146 distribution circuits that serve the greater Fort Wayne area.<\/p>\n

Estimates for full restoration of service:<\/p>\n

DeKalb,Adams, Wells, and Huntington Counties: late Monday night Delaware, Grant, Blackford, Jay, Madison, and Randolph Counties: Tuesday evening – estimate for full restoration changed due to large numbervery small pockets and individual customers who must be restored. Restoration for Allen and Whitley Counties has been modified as follows:<\/p>\n

80% of all customers restored by late Wednesday night Restoration will continue through the weekend for conditions that affect small pockets of customers and individual properties.<\/p>\n

Indiana Michigan Power will contact life support dependent customers to check on their condition.<\/p>\n

Electric consumers who have had power restored are asked to turn on their porch lights so that patrolling service technicians can better spot residences that are still without power in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Indiana Michigan Power cannot connect power to any home or business where there is damage to the service entrance. The service entrance is the area located 1) at the meter, 2) between the meter and the home’s electrical panel, or 3) the location where Indiana Michigan Power’s cable connects to the home\/business owner’s cable. Customers need to have a qualified electrician repair this damage before power can be restored to the home or business.<\/p>\n
