US 27\/Clinton Street to Re-Open to Traffic Wednesday, February 1, by 3 p.m<\/strong>.
\nSuperior and Harrison Streets returned to normal traffic pattern<\/em>
\nSteel Arches now in place<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the City of Fort Wayne announce the upcoming re-opening of US 27\/Clinton Street will occur on Wednesday, February 1, by 3 p.m. The closure was due to the construction of the overhead steel arches for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge. The contractor has removed the temporary supports, and is now in the process of testing the torque on the bolts to assure the quality of the installation. <\/p>\n

With the re-opening of US 27, there will be several restrictions.<\/p>\n

Superior and Harrison Streets will be returned to normal traffic flow as soon as possible, but all of the lanes and side street closures may not be re-opened until Thursday, February 2, during the morning hours. Access to residences and businesses will continue to be maintained at all times<\/p>\n

The right lane of US 27 will remain closed at State Boulevard and across the bridge to accommodate utility work being done near Science Central.<\/p>\n

West 4th Street, between Clinton Street and Harrison Street, will be closed once again, for an indefinite period of time.<\/p>\n

East 4th Street, between Clinton and Spy Run, has been closed throughout the project, and will remain closed for an indefinite period.<\/p>\n

When the bridge re-opens to traffic tomorrow, one of the three lanes will be restricted for 10-12 weeks. The restriction is due to continued illumination work on the bridge. The project will be complete in the spring.<\/p>\n

The signature bridge features an overhead steel arch that rises 50 feet above the bridge deck; it connects to downtown Fort Wayne over the St. Mary’s River to Lawton Park, the Rivergreenway, and Headwaters Park. The bridge will have sidewalks on both sides with seating halfway across the river and plaques with quotes from Dr. King attached to the railings.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
