Homework Hotline Is Back in Service<\/strong> <\/p>\n Hoosier students in grades 6-12 who are having trouble with math and science assignments should know help is just a phone call or mouse click away.<\/p>\n Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recently kicked off its 20th year of offering free tutoring to Hoosier students. Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST they can call 1-877-ASK-ROSE (1-877-275-7673) and receive personal attention as they work through difficult problems.<\/p>\n I would like to offer my deepest appreciation to Rose-Hulman and all of the tutors who have offered their assistance to Hoosier students over the past 20 years. This is a great resource that provides students with additional tools to help them succeed academically.<\/p>\n Students calling the hotline will need to provide their first name, their school’s name and be prepared with necessary materials:<\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Homework assignment; Homework questions can also be submitted online at www.AskRose.org<\/span> starting Sept. 26. Responses to online questions are given during the Homework Hotline’s hours of operation, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n Tutoring is provided by college students who were recommended by their professors. Tutors are chosen based on technical and communication skills. They are trained on how to best answer questions and explain difficult concepts to younger students.<\/p>\n In order to provide help with questions, tutors are armed with copies of state-recommended textbooks and Internet access. While they are not to give students the answers to problems or assignments, tutors will help students analyze questions and come up with solutions.<\/p>\n Teachers may access lesson plans, articles, a summary of Indiana’s academic standards and other educational resources when visiting www.AskRose.org<\/span>.<\/p>\n Thousands of Hoosier students took advantage of this educational resource during the 2010-2011 school year. The Homework Hotline answered 45,042 calls and conducted 2,934 online tutoring sessions last year. Locally, students from Allen County received assistance in finding the right solutions to 1,879 problems.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n
