New accredited alternative school opens July 25 in YFC Primetime Community Center<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
(July 21, 2011) – The Crossing Educational Center and Fort Wayne Area Youth for Christ (YFC) are partnering to provide tuition-free education to help transform the lives of area students who have “fallen through the cracks” of the local public school systems.<\/p>\n
On July 25, The Crossing Educational Center will open a new Fort Wayne campus in YFC’s Primetime Community Center, 3701 S. Calhoun St., across from Southside High School. It will provide tuition-free education for students in grades 9-12, regardless of whether they’re currently enrolled in a school or have dropped out.<\/p>\n
The Crossing is an accredited, faith-based, alternative high school in Indiana, focusing on students who have not been successful in a traditional school environment. The Crossing Educational Center currently has 11 campuses throughout Indiana\u00e2\u20ac\u201dspanning from South Bend to Butler to Frankfort\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand contracts with over 20 Indiana school corporations.<\/p>\n
“We’re excited to join forces with Youth for Christ in Fort Wayne. This partnership allows The Crossing and YFC to provide a more complete array of services to our struggling youth. By locating our school at Primetime, The Crossing can offer kids a second chance at a high school diploma in an environment that surrounds them with a comprehensive support system through Youth for Christ,” said Rob Staley, executive director, The Crossing Educational Center.<\/p>\n
Larry Lance, executive director, Fort Wayne Area Youth for Christ, said the partnership provides YFC yet another avenue to fulfill its mission of “pursuing and impacting youth.”<\/p>\n
“Imagine it,” said Lance. “We’ll provide a quality education for youth during the school day and then provide them with an array of after-school programs\u00e2\u20ac\u201dincluding tutoring and mentoring\u00e2\u20ac\u201das well as give them opportunities to participate in trips and events through YFC’s City Life program.<\/p>\n
“Together, we’ll be connected to more teenagers who need a helping hand and mentoring but, more important, love from a trusted friend,” said Lance.<\/p>\n
Although the Fort Wayne Crossing begins school on July 25, students can continue to enroll through mid-September. To receive free tuition, students must enroll by September 16.<\/p>\n
