Trinity Episcopal Church announces fall education offerings<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 West Berry in Fort Wayne, has slated various Christian Education offerings for all ages beginning September 18.<\/p>\n
Sunday School classes for Pre-K through 5th grade will utilize “Weaving God’s Promises”, a new curriculum from the national Episcopal Church. The curriculum combines the teaching of Scripture with reflection on the Church and on Christian living, according to the Rev. Dr. Steven Crain, who heads Trinity’s education department.<\/p>\n
Sunday School classes begin at 10 a.m. and conclude in time for children to join the service for communion.<\/p>\n
Confirmation classes for youth, grades 5 to 8, begin October 5. These classes will be led by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Hansen, Trinity’s rector. Adult confirmation class schedule will be set at a later date.<\/p>\n
Adult offerings include a Sunday morning Bible Study entitled Foundations, which runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The fall study topic will be decided by those in attendance on September 18. Dr. Crain leads this discussion.<\/p>\n
Also on Sunday mornings, a group entitled “Tea and Talk” meets at 8:30 a.m. to discuss faith issues and how they relate to our everyday lives. The group utilizes The Wired Word, an on-line Bible study, and other resources. Discussion and topics will vary as the group meets throughout the year.<\/p>\n
Beginning October 2, the group will be reading and discussing “The Once and Future Bible: an Introduction to the Bible for Religious Progressives”.<\/p>\n
Trinity also hosts an adult forum, which also begins on September 18, following the 10 a.m. service and starting at 11:30 a.m. The over-all theme for this fall’s talks is based upon comedian Robin Williams’ list of “Top Ten Reasons to be an Episcopalian”. Williams was raised in the Episcopal Church.<\/p>\n
September forums will be:<\/p>\n
September 18<\/strong>: Janet Eggiman, RN, MS, LMFT, “Introducing Kotter: Therapy Dog.” A marriage and family therapist and Trinity’s neighbor on Fulton St., Eggiman will introduce Kotter, her standard poodle, and the art of animal-assisted therapy.<\/p>\nSeptember 25<\/strong>: Dr. Steve Crain, “The New Cosmology: A Breath-Taking Creation Story.” Crain will introduce the new picture of cosmic evolution painted by the recent revolution in the science of cosmology.<\/p>\nA new Wednesday evening adult class begins on September 21 led by Dr. Crain. “Embracing an Adult Faith” will feature well-known Episcopal author and speaker Marcus Borg in a DVD series followed by open and in-depth conversation. The class begins at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
