“Don’t Miss a Beat” training available on Sept. 10<\/strong>
\nFree one-hour CPR class at Public Safety Academy<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(September 1, 2011) – This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 9\/11 attacks, and the Three Rivers CPR Task Force would like to invite all residents to commemorate the event by learning a life saving skill.<\/p>\n

There will be free hands-only CPR training on the morning of Saturday, Sep.10, at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana, 7602 Patriot Crossing. Anyone 12 years or older is invited to attend the event, which includes important tips for calling 911 and performing chest compressions.<\/p>\n

“The 9\/11 anniversary is a time when we remember the victims and honor the heroism of our nation’s rescue workers, but anyone can be a first responder in a cardiac emergency,” says Dr. Scott Mann, Medical Director, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority. “In less than an hour, you can learn a skill that could help save a life. It might be the life of a family member, a friend, or a neighbor.”<\/p>\n

The “Don’t Miss a Beat” classes start at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. that day. Walk-ins are welcome and are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the class starts to ensure sufficient time.<\/p>\n

Participants will use manikins or special kits to learn in about an hour how to perform compression CPR. Trained and experienced CPR instructors teach the classes and volunteer their time for this program.<\/p>\n

Compression or hands-only CPR focuses on chest compressions only, no breaths, to keep blood moving in an adult victim whose heart has stopped beating. It has become increasingly popular in recent years as research has shown it to be effective in helping to save lives.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Mayor Tom Henry honored a Fort Wayne woman<\/a> for saving the life of her husband because she knew what to do in a cardiac emergency after attending one of the “Don’t Miss a Beat” training events.<\/p>\n
