History Center hosts three events September 10-12<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Where were you when the towers fell?<\/p>\n

That’s the question the History Center is asking on Saturday, September 10. From 2- 4 pm, History Center staff will be on site at the museum located at 302 East Berry in Fort Wayne to record oral histories or accept written histories of area residents’ remembrances of 9-11.<\/p>\n

Participants wishing to have their oral history recorded should call 260-426-2882 in advance to schedule a time. Participants are also welcome to submit their written remembrances of any length of 9-11 by mailing them to the History Center. These histories will be compiled and preserved as a permanent addition to the History Center’s archival collection.<\/p>\n

“These episodes of joy and tragedy define us as a people and as a nation, as well as divert the future trajectory of mankind. These snapshots of emotion and history are etched into our individual and collective memories. The history of one event is the sum of hundreds of millions of individual stories and in their own way, each of those individual stories merit preservation,” said Todd Maxwell Pelfrey, executive director of the History Center.<\/p>\n

“History is not just about long ago occurrences recorded on pages yellowing with age\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6everyone has a story and it is worth sharing and preserving.”<\/p>\n

The Barr Street Market, corner of Barr and Wayne Streets, closes for the season on Saturday, September 10. Hours for September 3 and 10 are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with free admission to the History Center during that time.<\/p>\n

Sunday, September 11, from noon to 5 p.m., the History Center will be one of the points on the “Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown” event sponsored by Visit Fort Wayne. Admission to the museum is free for all ages that day. More information is available on the History Center blog at https:\/\/historycenterfw.blogspot.com\/ or from Visit Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n

Monday, September 12, Lutheran Life Villages is providing free admission to the History Center for those over 55 in celebration of Grandparents Day. Hours for this event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular admission applies to all other ages.<\/p>\n
