Trolley Downtown to Summer Events<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Next weekend, downtown will seem like a celebration of summer’s end with many fun activities planned. The last Saturday in August is a jam-packed day downtown starting with the Barr Street Market and Taste of the Arts festival followed by two free, family-friendly concerts and a Tin Caps game. To top it off, the Downtown Improvement District is sponsoring an old-fashioned trolley to run a loop around downtown for the evening activities.<\/p>\n

The trolley will run from 6:45 to about 11 p.m. and will start and end at “Dessert” at the corner of Lafayette and Main Streets. The trolley will loop all night between Dessert, Rock the Plaza and the Tin Caps game completing the circuit about every 15 or 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Dessert is sponsored by One Lucky Guitar and is billed as a party after the Taste, concluding the festival with four bands between 6 and 10. The bands play diverse styles and include: Dag and the Bulleit Boys, The Elky Summers, Jon Keller Band and Elephants in Mud. Restaurants serving at Dessert include: Mad Anthony, Thirsty Camel, Purple Mountain Cheesecake and Hall’s Takes the Cake. Performers for the final Rock the Plaza at the downtown library include: The Borrowed Time Band, Unlikely Alibi and the Mimi Burns Band. Pint and Slice will be serving that event. Both concerts are free and open to the public. The Tin Caps will play the West Michigan Whitecaps starting at 7:05. Those who want to park and ride around downtown can enjoy the fireworks after the game too. The trolley will run for a short time after the fireworks to take patrons back to their cars by 11:00.<\/p>\n

Downtown fun begins long before the trolley starts touring downtown with the YLNI Barr Street, now in its seventh season Saturday mornings through September 10. Patrons can browse among produce, flowers, coffee, jewelry and other vendors to the rhythm of various local bands. Enjoy the morning and bring the kids down for the activities, sponsored by the Allen County Public Library. The market averages 22 vendors per week.<\/p>\n

As the Market winds down, the Taste of the Arts festival begins. From noon until 7 p.m., Main Street by the Arts United Center, will be busy with over 50 performances, arts and culture booths, hands-on activities, an Art Marketplace and 30 local restaurants. Admission is free at the festival, and at the Museum of Art, History Center, and Cinema Center too. Busker Square, sponsored by the Downtown Improvement District will add a constantly running stage to Freimann Square with entertainment for the information booth audiences celebrating the street performer.<\/p>\n
