Get to Work\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6And Get A Life Before It’s Too Late<\/a>, Linda R. Hirshman tells women to pursue and stick with a career, rather than accept traditional notions of femininity against their own best interests. Among the most controversial books of the past decade, Get to Work propelled Hirshman into the “Mommy Wars” and appearances on 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, The Colbert Report, and on NPR.<\/p>\nGet to Work is the selection for the 2011 One Book Program sponsored by Women’s Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The goal of the program is to encourage people from both inside and outside the university to read and participate in a community discussion about feminism.<\/p>\n
Hirshman retired from Brandeis University, where she was the Allen\/Berenson Distinguished Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies. She taught and practiced law in Chicago for many years, and tried three cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. Her books include Hard Bargains: The Politics of Sex and A Woman’s Guide to Law School.<\/p>\n
Hirshman will give a lecture about Get to Work, Wednesday, September 21, in Neff Hall, Room 101, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
A luncheon and book discussion will be held Wednesday, September 28, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the second floor lounge area of Walb Student Union.
