Local Artist Daniel Swartz chosen for international residency program<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Throughout the month of July, Daniel Swartz completed a post-graduate curatorial residency in Beijing, China. Studying under James Elaine -Ordway Prize winner, former UCLA Hammer Museum curator- Swartz was given a backstage pass to the city of Beijing, China’s political and arts capital. Over the month, Swartz was able to experience a number of private performances and discussions, visit the studios of world renowned fine artists such as Wang Qingsong, Sun Xun, He Yuchang, and Qi Zhilong, commercial artists such as Li Wei, and meet influential critics and writers like Karen Smith, Phil Tinari, and Wang Wei Wei.<\/p>\n

Outside of these arts and cultural experiences, Swartz was immersed in and explored Beijing’s political, social, and economic worlds. This experience has allowed Swartz to advance his curatorial practice into a more comprehensive and global outlook.<\/p>\n

Swartz is the Cultural District Liaison for the Downtown Improvement District and Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne. He is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Fort Wayne, a contributing writer with the Fort Wayne Readers, and his community interests span the arts and economic development.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
