{"id":19054,"date":"2011-05-16T08:28:14","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T12:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=19054"},"modified":"2020-12-06T10:38:55","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T15:38:55","slug":"mlk-bridge-lane-restrictions-start-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2011\/05\/16\/mlk-bridge-lane-restrictions-start-today\/","title":{"rendered":"MLK Bridge lane restrictions start today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/icons\/tFWseal.jpg\" alt=\"City of Fort Wayne Seal\" \/><\/p>\n<p>News release from the City of Fort Wayne:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>MLK Bridge lane restrictions start Monday<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>City committed to keeping gateway into downtown open throughout construction process<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>(May 13, 2011) &#8211; The City of Fort Wayne reminds drivers using Clinton Street\/U.S. 27 to allow for extra commute time starting Monday morning for lane restrictions as part of the MLK Bridge construction project immediately north of downtown.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge and adjacent roadway between 4th Street and Headwaters Park will have a single lane for about three weeks beginning Monday morning, May 16.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Fort Wayne has worked with the Indiana Department of Transportation to construct the bridge in sections to keep this traffic route open to the 22,000 vehicles that travel it daily.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keeping traffic flowing and preventing delays, especially in downtown, has been a priority of my administration. I want to be sure the City of Fort Wayne does what it can to keep business and people moving,&#8221; said Mayor Tom Henry.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Fort Wayne in cooperation with INDOT is reconstructing this gateway bridge into downtown Fort Wayne. INDOT has focused on improving the bridge&#8217;s structure over the St. Marys River to allow for better river flow. The City, with federal funding, has focused on making it a signature gateway in downtown by adding truss-style arches, lighting and better sidewalks for pedestrians and bicyclists.
