IPFW Announces Inaugural Applied Leadership Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 12, 2011) – Winston Churchill once said, “Leadership is not knowing what to do, it is knowing what to do next.” That is a major
\ntenet of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) Applied Leadership Series, which offers its inaugural program Monday through Friday, May 16-20, 2011. The Series is co-sponsored by IPFW’s Divisions of Continuing Studies (DCS) and Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS).<\/p>\n

“The IPFW Applied Leadership Series has been designed and developed to give managers an opportunity to refine their leadership skills to
\ntake charge of building a continuously improving organization. It is dedicated to helping managers build upon existing leadership abilities while learning about emerging issues in varied disciplines that have to be well understood to be successful in leading the way,” said Robert
\nAbel, project coordinator for the Series and a member of the OLS faculty.<\/p>\n

The areas to be explored are designed to continuously advance a culture of high performance. These include:<\/p>\n

\n[li]Reviewing the current economic climate[\/li]
\n[li]Practicing key communication techniques[\/li]
\n[li]Succession planning[\/li]
\n[li]Managing demographic shifts and workforce effectiveness[\/li]
\n[li]Understanding developing legal and ethical issues[\/li]
\n[li]Leveraging social capital[\/li]
\n[li]Establishing innovation and entrepreneurship[\/li]
\n[\/list]<\/p>\n

Abel says the Series is a rich assembly of content and expertise. “The instructors are experts in their fields, and will offer a\u00c2\u00a0forum where \u00c2\u00a0managers can learn new methods and techniques in each of\u00c2\u00a0these disciplines. The challenging yet condensed curriculum will use\u00c2\u00a0case studies, lecture, and application exercises to teach these topics.\u00c2\u00a0The small classes and collaborative environment help participants form a\u00c2\u00a0tight-knit network of industry peers.”<\/p>\n

Instructors for the Series include a number of IPFW’s tenured and\u00c2\u00a0extended faculty as well as nationally and internationally recognized
\nleaders from area businesses.<\/p>\n

The Series will be held in the Keith Busse Steel Dynamics Alumni\u00c2\u00a0Center, located across the street from the Holiday Inn at IPFW and the\u00c2\u00a0Coliseum on Paul Shaffer Drive.<\/p>\n
