Lugar to Host 10th Annual Youth Academy Days<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 12, 2011) – U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar will host the 10th Annual Youth Academy Days this spring. The events provide information to high school sophomores and juniors about attending military academies.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies will attend each event. Students also can receive information about ROTC programs and Indiana National Guard opportunities.<\/p>\n

“The United States military academies offer students a highly regarded education and the opportunity to serve to their country, a combination that many young Hoosiers seek,” Lugar said. “For the 10th year, these Academy Days will offer a thorough overview about the process of applying for nominations.”<\/p>\n

The 10th Annual Youth Academy Days will take place at the following locations:<\/p>\n

A U.S. Senator, Congressman or the Vice President of the United States can nominate students interested in attending a military academy. Each year since his election to the Senate in 1976, Lugar has used the services of a nonpartisan Merit Selection Committee to review the applications he receives. Lugar then uses those recommendations as the basis for his academy nominations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
