IPFW History Department Hosts Undergraduate Conference<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 8, 2011) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) history students will present the results of their historical research at the third annual History Department Undergraduate Conference, Saturday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The conference will take place in Kettler Hall, Room 246. It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

The Third Annual History Department Undergraduate Conference will feature panels on four topics: “Church and Heresy in the Middle Ages,” “20th Century Genocidal Practices,” “Heroes, Villains, and Symbols,” and “Creation of Culture in America.” Eleven undergraduate students will present papers based on the research they conducted in their upper-level history courses. IPFW History Department faculty members will serve as moderators.<\/p>\n

“The conference provides an opportunity for our best students to share their research with an audience of their classmates, faculty from the history and other departments, their parents, and interested members of the Fort Wayne community,” said Ann Livschiz, assistant professor of history. “It’s an opportunity for students, some of whom are planning to go to graduate school, to get experience with conference dynamics. And for all students, it is an important opportunity to develop public speaking\/oral communication skills and the confidence that comes with these skills.”<\/p>\n

The history department plans to continue to grow the conference into an academically rigorous conference that will eventually be able to
\naccommodate student presenters from other universities.<\/p>\n

The conference is free and open to the public; however, RSVPs are required for the 1 p.m. luncheon. For more information, contact Ann
