<\/p>\n

(April 8, 2011) – Putting the accent on experience and leadership, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today announced Loren Robertson as the new Deputy Director of the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana. Robertson will assume his role in May.<\/p>\n

“With the appointment of Loren Robertson, the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana has a new champion,” said Mayor Henry. “His wealth of experience in the areas of public safety, public health, emergency management services and legislative affairs, along with his considerable administrative and partnership-building skills, will help this exceptional regional asset continue to grow and expand.”<\/p>\n

In his new position, Robertson will oversee the daily operations of this unique facility and coordinate with its area educational partners. He will direct strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and marketing for the Academy. He will also manage the development and implementation of its programs. A primary focus will be the continued coordination and integration of efforts with the towns, cities and counties of northeast Indiana.<\/p>\n

“The long-term vision for the Public Safety Academy is to ensure that the public safety personnel of northeast Indiana have access to the best training possible, to provide high- quality educational opportunities for the next generation of public safety professionals and to enhance the health and safety of northeast Indiana residents through programs such as hands-only CPR and community outreach initiatives,” noted Mayor Henry. “The Public Safety Academy’s potential is huge. We are pleased to welcome a dedicated professional and community leader who can build positive connections and be a strong advocate on behalf of the Academy.”<\/p>\n

Robertson returns to Fort Wayne having spent the past two years as Deputy State Health Commissioner with the Indiana State Board of Health. From May 2005 through May 2009, he worked as Assistant Commissioner with the Indiana Commission of Public Health and Preparedness.<\/p>\n

Robertson is known throughout our community for his many years of service with the Fort Wayne -Allen County Department of Health, most recently as Administrator from 1998 through 2005, and prior to that as an Inspector and Division Director from 1973 through 1995. In the interim, he acted as Legislative Liaison for the Allen County Commissioners, representing the county at the Indiana General Assembly.<\/p>\n

He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in the areas of Health and Safety and Community Health Education from Indiana State University.<\/p>\n

The work of the Academy’s Deputy Director will be in collaboration with the City of Fort Wayne’s Fire and Police Chiefs and the Director of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Office of Homeland Security. The position will report to the City’s public safety leadership. <\/p>\n

The Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana is a state-of-the-art regional facility that provides on-site and distance-learning training and educational offerings to first responders and future public safety leaders. It employs innovative technology and best practices in the delivery of it programs throughout a12-county region in northeast Indiana. Its mission is to:<\/p>\n

1. Deliver integrated public safety training to over 5000 regional first responders.
\n2. Provide education for future public safety leaders in a dynamic learning environment. This education will be delivered by an educational consortium that includes a regional career program high school, the Anthis Career Center; a state- level community college, Ivy Tech; and accredited four-year colleges and universities, Indiana University- Purdue University Fort Wayne and Trine University.
\n3. Employ best practices and innovative technology in public safety training and education.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
