Free Tickets Required for Patrick Henry Hughes Omnibus Lecture at IPFW<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(March 3, 2011) – The 2010-11 Indiana University-Purdue University (IPFW) Omnibus Lecture Series is drawing record crowds. For the\u00c2\u00a0convenience of patrons, and so that no guests will be turned away, FREE TICKETS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL LECTURES, including the upcoming event with accomplished musician Patrick Henry Hughes. Hughes’ presentation, “Achieving Your Potential,” will be on Wednesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhinehart Music Center on the IPFW campus. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Free tickets are available March 1, and can be requested at 260-481-6555, boxoffice@ipfw.edu<\/span>, or the Schatzlein Box Office in the\u00c2\u00a0lobby of the Rhinehart Music Center, Monday through Friday, 12:30-6:30 p.m. Guests should convey any special needs when requesting tickets so that priority seating can be provided. Tickets will hold seats until 7:15 p.m., when they will be offered to stand-by patrons.<\/p>\n

Patrick Henry Hughes is a remarkable young man. He was born with a rare genetic disorder that left him without eyes or the ability to fully\u00c2\u00a0straighten his arms and legs.<\/p>\n

Despite physical challenges that seem overwhelming, Hughes excels as a musician and student. He started playing piano at the age of nine
\nmonths. Today, he is a virtuoso pianist, trumpet player, and vocalist. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisville in December 2010, where he performed in the marching band while his father, Patrick John Hughes, moved his wheelchair through the routines.<\/p>\n

With determined optimism and courage, Hughes has made “I Am Potential” his mantra and defied the impossible at every turn. His book, I Am Potential: Eight Lessons on Living, Loving, and Reaching Your Dreams, recounts life lessons that are at the heart of his success, including “When Life Gives You Lemons, Accept Them and Be Grateful “and “Do All You Can to Change What You Can.” In its review of I Am Potential, Publishers Weekly wrote, “Hughes’ knowing but uplifting tone balances out the tragedies, making this an inspiring addition to the self-help-memoir shelf.”<\/p>\n

Hughes won Disney’s 2006 Wide World of Sports Spirit Award, has been featured in Sports Illustrated and Star Magazine, and has appeared on Oprah, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the Grand Ole Opry.<\/p>\n

The IPFW Omnibus Lecture Series brings six distinguished speakers to the university and the northeast Indiana community each year. The series, in its 16th year, is committed to presenting diverse perspectives through educated, respected, and entertaining speakers. Omnibus is made possible with the support of the English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation and publicized with support from Northeast Indiana Public Radio and WANE-TV NewsChannel 15. The Hughes lecture is sponsored by Anthony Wayne Services.<\/p>\n

The 2010-11 Omnibus Lecture Series is held in The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center in the acoustically superb, 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall. The music center is located on the north end of campus behind the Medical Education Center, in the arts plaza next to Williams Theatre and the Visual Arts Building.<\/p>\n

Due to campus construction, attendees should plan to arrive early, allowing additional time for traffic and parking. Only drop-off and eight handicapped parking spaces will be available directly in front of the music center building.<\/p>\n
