760 Yellow Plow Trucks Deployed Across Indiana<\/strong>

<\/p>\n

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Much of the state remains under a Winter Storm Warning or a Blizzard Warning issued by the National Weather Service. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has deployed about 760 yellow plow trucks around the state to clear and treat state roads, interstates and U.S. highways.<\/p>\n

As of 10:24 a.m., numerous central Indiana counties have declared travel advisories or watches in response to freezing rain, sleet and other mixed precipitation. Should ice accumulation and high winds bring down trees or utility lines, state law requires motorists to stop at an intersection where the signal is not functioning and then proceed with caution. Follow the direction of police officers directing traffic.<\/p>\n

Heavy snow accumulations are predicted north of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor connecting Lafayette to Fort Wayne. With a Blizzard Warning in effect, blowing and drifting snow can be anticipated for Indiana’s northern counties. Road conditions reported by INDOT crews are available online at TrafficWise.IN.gov<\/span> or by dialing 800-261-ROAD (7623).<\/p>\n

Yellow plow trucks are deployed ahead of predicted winter weather to make state highways as safe as possible, but winter driving safety is a partnership where motorists play an equally important role. Highways cannot be plowed and treated if clogged with crashes or rush-hour congestion, so INDOT urges motorists to remember Ice & Snow: Take it Slow and drive at a slow, safe and consistent speed.
