IPFW Professor One of Only 16 Invited to Holocaust Education Program in Israel<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(December 29, 2010) – David Lindquist, associate professor in the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) School of Education, will join an elite group of educators this January when he travels to Israel for the Yad Vashem Professors’ Study Tour. Lindquist was one of only 16 higher education specialists in the United States invited to participate in the program.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n

The third annual Yad Vashem Professors’ Study Tour will be held in Jerusalem, January 5 through 15. The tour is designed to provide
\nuniversity history and education instructors with experiences in using the teaching resource Echoes and Reflections, A Multimedia curriculum on the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

Lindquist is the co-director of the IPFW Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, which promotes public awareness and supports
\nscholarship, research and teaching on the Holocaust and other genocides worldwide. He is a Fellow of the Museum Teacher Fellowship Program of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) and participated in the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors study program in Poland and Israel. He is a Regional Museum Educator for the USHMM and has been named a Distinguished Teacher by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars.<\/p>\n

“Being able to study the Holocaust from an Israeli perspective, which in many ways differs from the view that is often taken in the United States, will bring a new freshness to my work with the subject,” said Lindquist.<\/p>\n

Other faculty representing institutions such as Columbia University, The Ohio State University, Boston College, the University of
\nWisconsin-Madison, and the University of Hawaii will attend the tour in Yad Vashem, which serves as the Israeli state Holocaust memorial and research center. It is the world’s largest repository of documents, testimonies, and photographs pertaining to the history of the Holocaust and is home to a historical museum, memorials, an art museum, and state-of-the-art learning centers.<\/p>\n

The program is sponsored jointly by Yad Vashem, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and the Shoah Foundation, an oral history organization currently housed at the University of Southern California.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
