Mather Lectures for 2011 announced by History Center<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The five electric interurban railroads that once served the Fort Wayne area will be the topic for the January 2, 2011 George R. Mather lecture at The History Center in Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n

Craig Berndt will provide maps, data and photos from the inception of the lines in 1902 to their closing in 1945. The free lecture begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.<\/p>\n

On February 6, Doris Yerger will speak about “20th Century African-American Women’s Clubs”.<\/p>\n

The March 6 lecture will feature Craig Leonard on “The W.B. Brown Company and the Arts and Crafts Movement.”<\/p>\n

Margery Graham will speak on April 3 on “Preservation of Records at the Local Level: Using and Preserving Local Historical Records”.<\/p>\n

Angie Quinn is May 1st’s speaker, focusing on “Fearless Champion of the Oppressed, and the Advocate of the Slaves: the Story of Alexander T. Rankin”.<\/p>\n

The final lecture of the season will be June 5 when Dan McCain speaks on “Allen County’s Unique Landscape, from the Glacial Age to Today”.<\/p>\n

The 2010-2011 George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series is sponsored by The Dunsire Family Foundation. All lectures in this series are free to the public, and are held at the History Center, 302 East Berry Street, Fort Wayne.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
